Title: What do You weigh?

Sunday 04
May, 2025

Daniel 5:25-28, “And this is the inscription that was written: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. This is the interpretation of each word. MENE: God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it; TEKEL: You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting; PERES: Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.”

When last did you check your physical weight? I guess not recently. Well! I was surprised and astonished the last time I did. In fact, what I saw made me decide to check my weight often. I was like, I should be around 60kg. However, to my utter shock, I watched the needle flicker and stay on 45kg. I was utterly shocked and befuddled. How could that even be true or correct. Well! Too bad! That is what the scale says. That was a while back. I need to go check again.

Dear friend, this is the focus of today’s nugget; it is about your spiritual weight – your value, relevance or significance to God and His eternal scheme. Sometimes, you may rate yourself so high, thinking you are actually contributing so much towards the advancement of God’s kingdom. And as such, you’re so important, valuable, relevant and significant to God and His work on earth. Hence, you feel indispensable.

And on the flip side, you may be serving God’s purpose albeit in a seemingly unimportant level or area, off the limelight or backstage. So, you feel and assume you’re not valuable, relevant, important or significant to God and His work on earth. Nothing can be more wrong. God’s evaluation and estimation of our value, significance, relevance and importance aren’t based on human parameters or indices.

Beloved, you may actually be doing so little, but God rates your little above those who seem to be doing so much or contributing significantly. So, before you conclude on your value or significance to God and His work on earth, let the evaluation and estimation come from Him, not the commendations, recognition, recommendations, appreciation or ovation from human beings. Why?

Because, just like the weighting scale, He is the only one who can truly assess the value of your contribution and your actual WEIGHT in His kingdom. Looking at today’s scripture we see a parallel. The scripture was the verdict of God to Belshazzar, the king of Babylon. He was a strong and prosperous king, sitting over a very vast empire. So, he was important and significant, right? Yes! However, the verdict of God who rules over all was that, “you have been weighted and found wanting. And your kingdom has been given to another person.” How sad.

Just think of this a moment, are you giving or sacrificing so much, both physically and financially towards the advancement of God’s kingdom on earth? But, are you sure God’s ESTIMATION of your value and significance to Him, His work and kingdom is the same as your own ASSUMPTION? Until the invisible hand wrote Belshazzar’s weight on the wall, he was convinced he was ok and doing well. Maybe you may need to check your own spiritual weight too; your value, relevance, importance and significance with God today. Selah!

~ Mark 12:43-44, “So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”
