Genesis 20:7, “Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”
Life can be very burdensome, lackluster and tiring when you are in the valley or going through your wilderness, silent or WAITING season. A time when like Abram, Joseph, Job etc, you have enough time and opportunities to doubt not only yourself, your abilities and your purpose, but even God, His love, promises and will for your life. This is the time when you truly become a child of God. Why?
Beloved, this is because, this is when your faith, trust and RESOLVE and determination for God is forged and solidified. And it’s either you believe God ABSOLUTELY and remain steadfast or doubt Him and stray away into the ever waiting hands of satan. Just imagine for a second that you are Abraham. And Jehovah God, a foreign or strange god SPOKE to and called you in chapter eleven (11) out of idolatry to follow and worship Him at the age of seventy-five (75).
Dear child of God, please, understand that, Abram had served the idols of his people all his life. And though this new God was a stranger, Abram still chose to follow Jehovah God. In chapter twelve, God made a promise of a SEED, generations of children and nations to come from you. But lo and behold, till today’s scripture in chapter twenty (20) and at the advanced age of ninety-nine (99), that’s around twenty-four (24) years of following God and waiting, God hasn’t fulfilled His promise to you. Or, you are yet to have an heir to your vast empire and wealth.
But guess what? As seen in today’s scripture, God was busy promoting, advertising and marketing Abraham as a PROPHET to people who ordinarily would think Abraham was a FAILURE because he was barren or childless. In fact, God told the king in today’s scripture that, Abraham’s prayer was very powerful and effective. Isn’t that laughable? I mean, the same prayer he had prayed for twenty-four (24) years without any visible results and it seems God didn’t hear.
But, God attested to and confirmed that, Abraham’s prayer works. And alas! When Abraham prayed for the king, it worked. So, please, what will be going on in your mind if you were Abraham? No wonder Paul the Apostle said in 2 Corinthians 6:9-10 that, “as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.”
Dear friend, never judge who or what you are by what you have or what is going on in and around your life at anytime. Never mind what your physical situation is telling or calling you. Your physical situations may change either way; whether positive or negative in order to fulfil the will or purpose of God per time. Please, rather focus on what God is saying about you. Everything in this life is both temporary and dispensable as far as God is concerned. You can see that in the story of people like Joseph, Ruth, Esther, Job, David or Elizabeth. But, your SOUL and its state is the PRIMARY concern and focus of God. Please, keep it far from unbelief, doubt and OFFENSE. Selah!
