Luke 24:21, “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened.”
One thing you can do absolutely nothing about is the opinion or expectations that people WILL have and hold about your destiny. This is a very common human weakness; in fact, it defines us. And you should know this because, even you, don’t you NURSE opinions and expectations about people in your life? You will be shocked if and when you get to know what people are looking forward to, expecting from you or for you to become. This is the focus of today’s nugget.
Dear friend, to understand more clearly, are you aware that your parents had their opinions and expectations about who you are and who you are supposed to become? And in case that’s not clear enough, don’t you have expectations about your children, spouse, siblings, friends, colleagues, neighbors and even church members? Yes! You do, we all do. But can I ask you that, how many people around you have you bothered to tell about the opinions and expectations you have about them?
Beloved, flip that around and you will know why people look at you in a certain way, react and relate to you in a certain way or speak to you in a certain way. Today’s scripture is the encounter Jesus had with some UNFAMILIAR disciples after His death became a breaking news. They were unfamiliar because, they obviously haven’t met or related with Him personally. However, after His death and burial, they were so discouraged, devastated and HOPELESS.
But why? At least, isn’t it a good thing that the saviour died just as He has told those who followed Him? At least, the next EVENT they should have been EXPECTING was His resurrection. But no! They had other expectations; their own opinions and expectations. Please, read today’s scripture again and compare their opinions and expectations of the life, purpose and destiny of Jesus Christ with what He went around telling everyone who cared to listen for more than three (3) very long years.
Just, imagine that, even the twelve disciples or apostles who were very close to Jesus also had their own expectations of what the purpose and ministry of Jesus should be. Acts 1:6 says, “therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” Can you imagine such a huge DISCONNECT despite the clarity of Jesus’ message about His life, purpose and ministry? What is the main point today? Please, be very CLEAR and RESOLUTE about what God has told you personally or said and is presently saying about your life, purpose, ministry and destiny.
Otherwise, the people in your life will try everything possible to distract, divert and redirect you into their own opinions and expectations about WHY YOU ARE HERE, starting from your beloved families and friends. They have their opinions and expections of your future career, gift, talent, potential, who you should marry, where you should work, live or worship etc. And no offense taken. Why? Because, you also have and NURSE same about other people too. Or isn’t it. But never forget, no amount of the gift, grace or anointing of the Holy Spirit can keep you SAFE in the wrong pursuit, purpose, business, location, career, marriage or destiny. Neither will it guarantee any eternal reward for you before the father on that day. Shalom!
